Day-long institute will focus on greening
Citrus Extension agents, as well as researchers and growers, will share information about citrus greening during a day-long symposium, April 7.
The Florida Citrus Growers Institute will be held at the Stuart Conference Center in Bartow.
Citrus greening, also known as Huanglongbing or HLB, was first detected in Florida in 2006. It has since spread to most of the state's citrus-producing regions.
The bacterium is harmless to humans but can kill a citrus tree in a few years.
Although the educational program is free, it is limited to 300 participants and requires pre-registration.
Continuing education units have been requested for holders of restricted-use pesticides and certified crop advisers.
Among the topics to be covered are production systems and plant improvement, vector management, disease detection and spread, and plant responses to greening.
