Northeast plans to fight late blight again in tomatoes, potatoes

Last year's cold, rainy spring created the perfect storm for late blight in tomatoes and potatoes in the Northeast.
Althought the late blight fungus doesn't overwinter well in cold weather, farm specialists with the University of Massachusetts in Amherst are developing strategies to try to prevent the reoccurrence of such a widespread outbreak this season.
